How And When To Plant Grain Plants?

Planting cereal grains is not a very difficult job. However, most people don’t think that it is a worthy enough to spend time and effort on it. They think, if they can buy it from the market much cheaper, why to put extra effort.

However, there are still some people who choose to grow their own grain and subsequently grind them using devoted potable grain mills. The driving force behind such decisions of these people is the fact that self grown cereals are the most nutritious forms of food, especially when compared against the processed flour. Therefore, many people can be found harvesting self grown grains from their little gardens. This specifically grown grain is then ground by the person himself through either electrical or hand operated grain mills. Apart from the nutritional value that self grown and ground grains provide to the eaters, they also allow the family members a certain level of self sufficiency that is a confidence boost more than anything else.

Cereal plants are, by nature, extremely tough and can handle most weather conditions. In fact, most cereal plants can even handle less than average sunlight, poor soils, cold climates, poor soil quality, less than normal water etc. Furthermore, if a person keeps the plants close together while planting cereal grains, then he will find that they will protect themselves from weeds by crowding out the sunlight from the ground. Additionally, barring certain species of rice, which require semi or complete flooding, almost all other grains are, in fact, extremely easy to maintain. This property of cereal grains can be attributed to the fact that they have always been focused upon by herbivore animals since earth became habitable for life which forced them to adapt in order to survive.

It would be prudent to advise an interested person that planting cereal grains should not be done without appropriate research or all the hard work will go down the drain. There are certain technical aspects that need to be understood like the planting season, liming of the soil, appropriate irrigation, de-weeding, keeping animals away etc. Each and every aforementioned activity is extremely detailed and needs to be understood with respect to every cereal grain that you are looking to plant. A person should also be aware that, despite the fact that these plants are sturdy in nature, planting cereal grains still requires significant dedication. Still, the benefits that a person will get from self grown cereals would easily outweigh the efforts that he would be putting into the whole exercise.
